Corbin Carroll robs potential 3-run HR before Giants pour it on D-backs

Corbin Carroll saved three runs but he couldn’t save the other seven the San Francisco Giants would score on the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first three innings on Tuesday of an 11-0 loss.

In the top of the second inning, D-backs starter Brandon Pfaadt allowed a solo homer and then two Giants to reach base before Mike Yastrzemski hit a deep fly ball to right-center.

Carroll tracked it well, called off center fielder Jake McCarthy and timed his jump to take away what would have been an early 4-0 San Francisco advantage.

The D-backs, however, could not build off Carroll’s incredible play.

The next inning, San Francisco again got two runners on quickly against Pfaadt and this time a deep fly ball by Michael Conforto would be a three-run homer to get back that 4-0 lead Carroll took away. After a walk and a groundout, Arizona pulled Pfaadt after just 2.2 innings pitched. Reliever Blake Walston then gave up his own three-run homer to make it 7-0 Giants.

San Francisco added an additional run in the fourth, two more in the fifth an another in the eighth.

The D-backs only mustered six hits and two walks on offense. They were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
