Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs, a former Arizona State All-American, was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license in Scottsdale early Friday morning.

Scottsdale police received a call about the sound of a collision near the intersection of Hayden and Thompson Peak at about 1:20 a.m. Officers then followed a fluid trail to a nearby grocery store, where they found a white BMW registered to Suggs, at the location with fresh damage.

The 33-year-old was interviewed by police, who determined he was not impaired, but the NFL star said that he could have possibly fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the one-car collision. Officers also found that Suggs had a suspended driver’s license and he was arrested at about 2 a.m.

Suggs received a citation and was later released.

His public relations firm released a statement on the linebacker on Twitter Friday morning.

This isn’t the first time Suggs has been arrested in Arizona. In 2003, Suggs was accused of assaulting a man in a parking lot at a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Phoenix. He was acquitted of the charges in 2005.

Suggs played his college football at Arizona State from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, he set an NCAA single-season record with 24 quarterback sacks, a record that still stands. He was named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and was the 10th overall selection in the 2003 NFL Draft.

He has spent his entire NFL career in Baltimore, earning six Pro Bowl selections and was named the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

Suggs is the second former ASU player arrested in Scottsdale recently. Houston Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong was charged with possession of marijuana in Scottsdale last month.
