PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll zoomed around the bases for an inside-the-park home run in the first inning of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers received back-to-back-to-back home runs from their MVPs to lead off the ballgame, as Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman took D-backs starter Merrill Kelly yard.

The Diamondbacks needed an answer, and Carroll popped a deep fly ball 415 feet to center field off L.A.’s Gavin Stone.

Dodgers center fielder Kevin Kiermaier leaped at the wall, but the ball bounced over his glove.

As the ball rolled away from Kiermaier, Carroll’s home run looked inevitable. He crossed home plate without having to slide.

Carroll became the first Diamondbacks player with an inside-the-park home run since Jordan Luplow in 2022.

Carroll has homered five times in his last five games, including a solo shot off Clayton Kershaw on Friday. He has now reached base safely in 39 straight games, which ties Jay Bell for a franchise record.

His homer kicked off a four-run first inning by the Arizona offense to take the lead in a wild start to another ballgame. Jake McCarthy, Joc Pederson and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each recorded knocks following Carroll, with Gurriel’s double under the glove of Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernandez plating two runs. Eugenio Suarez hit a sacrifice fly for the early 4-3 lead.

The Diamondbacks overcame two multi-run deficits in the first three innings on Friday, although the Dodgers outlasted Arizona 10-9.
