Corbin Carroll feasted on a 67 mph curveball for a solo home run off of Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw in the second inning Friday night at Chase Field. Kershaw left the game immediately after the home run with left big toe pain, the Dodgers said.

The Arizona Diamondbacks star outfielder capitalized on Kershaw’s second offering, and the three-time Cy Young winner was pulled by manager Dave Roberts before Carroll even touched home plate. Carroll crushed his 18th long ball of the season and 10th this month. Prior to the All-Star break, Carroll had only five homers to his name.

He flashed some of his defensiveness prowess soon after with a run-down snag of second baseman Gavin Lux.

Kershaw made just his sixth start of the year after returning to the rotation following offseason shoulder surgery. He gave up three runs, three hits and walked one Arizona batter in one inning pitched.

On the D-backs’ end of things, Zac Gallen struggled mightily through his first two innings, surrendering six hits and five earned runs. The club’s ace put up two zeros in the third and fourth, however, led by three strikeouts.

The Diamondbacks and Dodgers were tied 5-5 after four innings.
